Last Saturday night some friends took my wife and me to Savastano’s new location off Memorial and 105th, across from the new Spirit Bank Event Center. The wait for a table in the dining room was almost 45 minutes, so we went downstairs to the bar. It’s a great little place with a pool table, a shuffleboard table, and TV monitors tuned into the latest sporting event. They still offer their full service menu downstairs, and we ordered the 14-inch Deep Dish Hancock Building for the four of us.Now, I’m no stranger to Chicago. I lived in downtown Chicago with my Aunt Betty back in the early 60’s during summer vacations, and I’m no stranger to Chicago style deep-dish pizza either. This Savastano’s pizza has a sweet Italian sausage, and a fresh homemade sauce that you dream about later. I was in Deep Dish Heaven, and still we got to take home half of that pie. These pizzas should be measured in pounds rather than inches! Click on the pie for a close-up and you'll see what I mean.
A smart lesson was reinforced with me that night. Make sure that each and every customer wants to come back soon... and often. I know that I’ll be back to Savastano’s very soon to try out their authentic Chicago style red-hot with the neon green relish. Yummy!
